We're Camping in the Rain!

It's that time of the year again.  We are breaking out the camper & going on some fun trips.  This past weekend we went to Kerr Lake with two other families from Bobby's work.  We knew in advance that the weather wasn't going to be perfect, but  it was worth the gamble to go & see what happened.

When we arrived to set up camp everything was looking grand.  The kids ran out immediately to check out the lake.  They grabbed their fishing poles and started right in with the fun.  Believe it or not on Zion's first cast he caught the one & only fish for the weekend.  It was a little booger, but a catch none the less.

It is always a bonus when we go camping with friends that also have kids.  Trin & Z enjoyed playing with Julia for sure.

Campfires were still essential even if storms are a brewing.

And we are always thankful for a warm, dry place to lay our heads at night (and spoiled Dixie was thankful too).

We didn't hit up the grocery store before this trip & stock up like usual (a good way to save some money). So we made do with what we had on hand & had french toast and cantaloupe for breakfast that first morning.  Delicious--even if I say so myself.

The rain started Friday night after we piled into the camper for the night.  The sound of the torrential downpour was actaully very soothing & it put us all right to sleep.  There was still rain abounding Saturday morning when we woke up & it continued throughout most of the day.  But that didn't stop anyone.  The kids still did their camping things, but this time the rain & puddles to add to the fun.

Pawpaw Gill (aka Dexter) & Zeke were in a fishing tournament on Saturday morning (oh the fun of fishing in the rain), so we all walked to check in on them for the weigh in at the end.

Zion helped to put one of their catches back into the water after they weighed it.

Thankfully the weather cleared up some & we were still able to enjoy some time around the fire without getting soaked.

We broke out the ball, bat & bases to play a little baseball on Sunday.  Yeah for a day of no rain so everything could dry out before packing up.

We all learned a few new games this trip.  Abi taught us one that was kind of a round robin card game that we could all play.  Fun times!

Before leaving we took a walk out the some of the boat docks on the lake.  It was definitely a memory making camping trip--a good one to start the season with.  Hopefully there will many more to come this summer, and we are already starting to pray for good weather!
