Last weekend we mixed two of the things our family loves: soccer & our school. We try to support our school in any way we can, but especially when it comes to our soccer teams. Of course we followed j.v. soccer because Caleb was playing, but we also were devout fans of the varsity team too...it's in our blood. Bobby's dad (aka Papa) has coached this team for many, many years. Bobby tries to make it to as many of their practices as possible to scrimmage with them & just help out if he can. We have traveled all over this year to watch all of their games. So it was no surprise that we packed up and booked a hotel room to support them at the State Tournament.
I worked a half day on Friday & then we headed to Wilson, NC. Got there a little early so we met up with friends at good old Cracker Barrel & enjoyed an early dinner since we knew it would be 9:30 before we left the school to head back to our hotel.
Our game was at 7:00. Kind of cool being under the lights, but not very cool when the rain & cold started coming in.
But ACS has some devoted fans, and we cheered them on through the rain.
This was my view for a part of the game (peaking out from under the umbrella) . Notice Micah & his friend Lee are just sitting in the misty rain & Micah left his coat in our hotel room. I know...I'm just a great mom!? :)
The rain would subside some to just mist, and we could survive with just our hoods on.
The game was such a roller coaster ride of emotions. We were loosing 0-1 a good part of the game & then we tied it up. Then it was 2-10 minute overtime halves. Still tied. Then it was 2-5 minute sudden death over time halves. Still tied, so we went into penalty kicks. Sadly, we lost. But I know the boys gave 110%, so we were still so proud of them!
We were all drained by the time we got back to our hotel room & crashed in our not so clean room. We had a smoking room (because it was the only type left by the time we got our reservations) which could or could not be bad depending on how it smelt...it smelt nasty! There were other issues, but the main one was the peep hole that happened to be missing from our door--so we just had an open hole in our door...very nice. But, we survived the night & managed to sleep rather well.
It was nice to also be able to cheer on our girls in the volleyball games too.
You can tell Zion was all into the game...he & his friends broke out the legos and played on the bleachers.
So we were in the consolation game on Saturday afternoon instead of the championship game. There is not a lot about the game that needs to be repeated. The guys were pretty beat up from the game the night before & just plain tired since their game went so long. We lost 1-5, but that score doesn't show what all this team accomplished this season. I'm glad we got to go & cheer them on from the sidelines. And as always, we are proud to be an ACS Warrior!!
